Even with restrictions brought on by the pandemic, Niverville’s Recreation Department is thriving.

“We’re still encouraging people to get out and active,” says Recreational Programmer Chantel Todd, who just this week organized a community-wide scavenger hunt with her colleague Angela Janz.

“For the next two weeks, every four days, people can create art and put it up in their windows,” explains Todd, “and then go for a walk around town and spot all the beautiful creations.”

Every four days the neighbourhood hunt changes themes, with “Flowers” currently inspiring young local artists, and “Silly Animals & Faces” up next.

Another idea that Todd offers for those that aren’t getting the exercise they need, is to modify their walks with determined prompts. “When you’re going for a walk, at every light post do 10 jumping jacks or something along those lines.”

Todd also mentions that they have put together a physical activity guide which they hope will be available in days.  Additionally, they have been finding and posting all kinds of ideas and interactive activities on Niverville Rec’s Facebook and Instagram pages.

Describing the situation as both “interesting” and “unfortunate”, Todd says she and Angela are still making plans.

“We’re still planning as normal,” she shares. “We’re hoping for the better and working on our summer programs.”
