Thanks to a federal grant, the Town of Niverville will be getting a brand new play structure in Hespeler Park.

Niverville Mayor Myron Dyck says council is planning to build a $300,000 play structure right next to the existing splash pad. He says council submitted a grant application for $100,000 and were delighted to learn they will be receiving the full amount.

"Originally we thought if we got no money we would have to do $150,000 $150,000 over two years so that was kind of our tentative number. If we have to ante up to $200,000 this year we believe that we can still make that work so that we can complete the project all in one shot."

Back in April 2018, council put forward three play structure design proposals to get feedback from residents. Dyck says each of the designs drew inspiration from Niverville’s heritage. He adds now that the funds have come in, they will work to finalize the design and hope to complete the project before the end of this coming construction season.

Dyck says the $100,000 they are getting will be coming from the federal government's Enabling Accessibility Fund and should also cover an automatic door upgrade at the splash pad change rooms.

"Accessibility is a very large part of this. We have always said our community should be one where you belong and we want to make sure that it is where everyone feels they belong. Accessibility for all age groups with projects that we do is very important to us and so we are very happy for this grant, it will provide better accessibility to the washrooms as well as to this structure itself."
