Taché residents are being asked to stop using the RCMP Satellite Office in Niverville.

Reeve Justin Bohemier says his council recently received a letter from the town advising them that their ratepayers had cost the satellite office $861.87 in services throughout the month of February alone. That same month, fifteen out of fifty interactions with the Niverville RCMP secretary were with Taché ratepayers. As the two entities do not cost-share, Niverville administration absorbed that payment and has been absorbing similar outlying costs for years.

That being the case, the town presented the RM with an ultimatum, of sorts. They asked Taché Council to either shoulder the cost of their own ratepayers using the Niverville service, or else direct them to the nearest RCMP Detachment in St. Pierre-Jolys. Bohemier says his council decided on the second option as the RCMP expenses were primarily related to Criminal Record Checks, which can just as easily be done in St. Pierre.

“Niverville is a good neighbor, we want to keep working together in the future, and we’ve just seen this as an opportunity to address the situation,” comments Bohemier who hopes to peacefully resolve the issue. “If it cost our neighbors some money, we definitely don’t want any hardship and we have no trouble covering the cost.”

Now, if they need RCMP assistance, Bohemier asks his fellow residents to drive 18 kilometers further to the St. Pierre detachment with all requests or inquiries and leave the satellite office for those who are actually paying for it.
