Niverville Town Council has approved a resolution to ask Manitoba Infrastructure for a more gradual reduction of the speed limit on Provincial Road 311 near Highway 59.

Town Councilor Nathan Dueck says they have received comments from a number of residents stating the speed limit drops to abruptly on PR 311.

"There is a speed change from 100 kilometres an hour right down to 60 and the concerns in the voices that we are hearing is that, based on zoning, we would like to see a gradual reduction from 100 to 80 to 60 to make sure that it creates a little more awareness of the intersection itself."

Dueck says, in general, the traffic lights at the intersection of PR 311 and Highway 59 have made the intersection safer.

"Surprisingly it seems to be an incredibly positive asset. The lights change over every 15 seconds, the wait times are reduced with the fact that it allows the right of way on the green, so time wise it has not increased or decreased really anybody’s community in any way shape or form."
