Landmark Planning and Design held an open house in Niverville to inform the public on their search for a new water source for the Town of Niverville.

Donovan Toews is leading the Landmark Planning and Design team on this project. He says the water source that the Town of Niverville is currently using is not ideal and they are searching for a better one. He notes they held an open house in Niverville to make sure the public was fully aware of the process.

"We presented a fair bit of introductory information so that people could understand the objectives, but also the background. A little bit about the hydrogeology in the area and in the region, and then a lot on just our process. We are at the very beginning of this process and so before we actually do anything in terms of test drilling on sit, everyone to understand what our process is."

Toews says the target area for the project consists of six sections just east of Highway 59. He notes before they held the open house they met individually with landowners who may be affected by their work and the surrounding rural municipalities.

"The big thing that we want people to know is we have got to do a lot of due diligence in order to secure a good supply, and a good supply is one that isn't going to impact existing wells or future wells. A lot of people, when they first hear about something like this, are concerned about whether their wells would be impacted by a well from Niverville and we wanted to provide those reassurances."

Toews says the open house went very well. He says they have found that when they are working on a big project like this is if people do not know what is going on they will often assume the worst.

"Our main objective with communication is that there are no surprises and that there is the proper information out there. We find before we do anything on site if people know what we are going to do then they can trust the process."

Toews says they plan on having three more information sessions throughout the project to keep the public up to date.
