The Mayor for Niverville says he is pleased with the results from the Manitoba Electoral Divisions Boundaries Commission.

The Commission has submitted its final report with changes in 56 of Manitoba's 57 provincial constituencies. One change will see the town of Niverville become part of Springfield-Ritchot, which includes the communities of Oakbank, Dugald, Ile des Chenes, St. Adolphe and Ste. Agathe.

Earlier this year, the Commission suggested Niverville move into a riding that would include communities such as Vita, Sprague and Buffalo Point. At a public hearing, Niverville Mayor Myron Dyck expressed concern with that proposal, suggesting that would not be in keeping with municipalities they converse with.

"I would say that we are pleased with the changes that have been made," says Dyck.

He notes being part of the capital region, Niverville communicates with municipalities in the Winnipeg vicinity. They know these councils quite well and Dyck says he is pleased these municipalities will belong to the same constituency.

When the Commission suggested in September that Niverville rather be part of a constituency called Carillon, Dyck says he offered suggestions for how they could move Niverville to a different constituency, while still maintaining a similar population.

It looks like they've given that consideration," says Dyck. "And we're appreciative to the committee for listening and for trying to implement our suggestion."

The changes to the boundaries will take effect for the next provincial general election, to be held in 2020.
