Niverville Town council has taken another step toward purchasing the vacated Horizon Livestock Building just off of Highway 311 on Bronstone Drive.

Council gave first reading to a bylaw that will allow them to pay for the $1.65 million building over a three year period.

Mayor Myron Dyck says many residents had concerns when they first heard about the plan, but council was able to address those issues and show that they had done their due diligence to make sure this was the best plan for the town.

“It is just a matter sometimes of ensuring that there is enough information going out and that is a goal of our council, is to do our best to communicate.”

Niverville Chamber of Commerce President John Magri presenting letter of approval to councilDyck notes because the public hearing for the purchase was held at a 9 A.M. council meeting on Tuesday, many residents requested an evening meeting to voice their concerns.

“A public information night was held a week ago in the evening allowing people from the community to come out and to have their questions answered, to express any concerns they had with it. That takes us to today where we have the official public hearing, people had a chance to ask their questions and state their position in favour or object and we are very fortunate today that there was no official objection raised.”

Four local residents and the Niverville Chamber of Commerce submitted letters supporting the towns planned purchase of the Horizon Livestock Building.

The Horizon Livestock Building has 6,400 square feet of office space which will house the Niverville town office as well as 11,800 square feet of warehouse space which Dyck says will hopefully one day house either their public works department or fire department.
