The Mayor of Niverville is welcoming Tuesday's announcement that traffic signals will be installed on the west side of the community.

Manitoba Infrastructure Minister Ron Schuler announced Tuesday morning that his government is working in collaboration with the Town of Niverville to cost-share $1.9 million in improvements to the intersection of Provincial Road 311 and Mulberry Avenue, on the west edge of the community. Improvements include adding turning lanes and traffic signals to facilitate increasing traffic volume through the intersection. The upgrades are also expected to improve operations at the PR 311 intersection with Krahn Road.

hat is being planned there, as well as the 300 lot residential development. He explains Drover's Run, which takes you past Tim Hortons and the Shell gas station will one day extend east all the way to the tracks. Dyck notes it is up to the developer to decide when Mulberry Avenue will be extended to the south side of PR 311.

According to Dyck, the intersection improvements are expected to be completed by next fall. He anticipates work probably will not commence before the spring thaw.

Dyck says this project was part of the town's Main Street study done years ago. He says he appreciates the foresight and the fact this is happening now already before it becomes a dangerous intersection. Further to that, he says those lights will slow down traffic in that area, noting often motorists begin accelerating as soon as they cross the tracks.
