The mayor of Niverville says 2016 saw some good progress on a number of big projectsas well as some changes to town council.

Myron Dyck says there was a byelection in September which was triggered by former councilor John Falk resigning from council to run in the provincial election.

“We were excited to welcome councilor Dueck in the recent byelection. He has been a huge addition to our council. He has got a few months under the belt now and it has been a learning curve for him, but he fits in really well.”

Dyck says time has flown by and the town has been able to get a lot done.

“Quite a few things have happened this past year. We rolled out the tilt cart program for the garbage, we opened our splash park this summer which was some years in the making. I think every year is a year where you want to get things done that you set out to do. Four years may seem like a long time to some, but it goes very fast.”

Dyck says they were able to do a lot of infrastructure work. He notes a highlight was bringing fire hydrants, water suppression, and potable water to the business district through the water main project. He adds they were also able to wrap up a couple of ongoing projects.

“We finished a three year riprap program and stabilization of all of our banks in our lagoon. We heard from the province this year regarding our wetlands development project that one of the cells could now be remediated and be used for park space.”

Dyck says they are now looking forward to the many projects they have planned for 2017.
