The Town of Niverville will be joining the Partnership of the Manitoba Capital Region in setting up a regional fire services reporting system.

Niverville Mayor Myron Dyck says town council approved a plan to join the capital region on this project at Tuesday's council meeting. He notes it will cost Niverville $6,500 this year and $1,700 for every year after that.

Dyck says this regional effort will give each member municipality access to more information at a central location.

“This is a shared initiative among the Capital Region Municipalities where the information being gathered from all of our fire services and all of the incidence reports that they do are now going to be stored centrally so we will all also be able to see what is happening in other communities and it will be stored centrally so it helps with things like liability and things like that.”

The information collected can also be used to perform analysis for more informed decisions. All data will be stored in servers within Canada.

Dyck says in general, the Town of Niverville is looking to work more closely with the municipalities of the capital region.

“It is a sharing of information between municipalities and there is a greater opportunity to access funding for initiatives then each municipality trying to get it's own funding so whether it is a topic like landfill or waste management or water or sewer. It is also a networking among municipal leaders and working together.”
