Niverville Council continues to do what it can to attract more businesses to town.

On Tuesday it was decided to pass a grant which gives developers some assistance in their first two years of business.

“It’s a grant back of their taxes on a step-down process over time,” explains Mayor Myron Dyck. “We’re now going to grant back taxes over two years, %100 in the first and %50 in the second.”

The grant applies only to empty spaces specifies the Mayor and not ones with existing tenants.

“If you fill the space within that two-year time, you’ll just slide over to the other program,” explains Dyck, “so there are two programs now, one for filled-space and one for vacant space.”

Dyck goes on to suggest that through hearsay and informal conversations Council is already aware of developer interest.

“No one has shown us blueprints,” says Dyck, “but we know there’s interest and if this is a means to spur that interest into reality, then that’d be great.”
