Niverville’s busiest corner is about to get some governance.

A set of traffic lights at the intersection of Main Street and Fifth Avenue is scheduled for installation this summer.

“It is a realization that Niverville is growing, that things are moving forward,” says Infrastructure Minister Ron Schuler. “There is a lot of excitement.”

The Minister made the announcement Thursday afternoon online. “We would have liked to have this be a slightly bigger announcement,” explained Schuler alluding to the provincial emergency, “but I think the residents of Niverville and the surrounding communities will be really pleased to hear that they have a government that is listening.”

Mayor Myron Dyck notes that continued growth, especially on the southeastern side of the town, made safety at the intersection a growing concern. “There were various recommendations and timelines and this was deemed the most urgent,” explains the Mayor, “so it would only make sense that this would be the first installation.”

Current projections have the traffic lights up and running sometime in mid to late summer.
