Lorette Firefighters will be attending local emergencies in a brand new ride.

Taché Fire Chief Allan Rau says his crew welcomed a 2,500-gallon tanker to the hall Tuesday evening in typical firefighter fashion: with friends, family, and the mayor attending a ceremonial event

“The fire department is big on traditions,” remarks the Chief, “and when you get a new fire apparatus there are a few things you do.” Because of the cold temperatures, Rau says they abstained from washing the vehicle as they would have in summer, however, they did join together to push it into the hall.

The new piece of equipment was custom built by members of the Green Acres Hutterite Colony in western Manitoba and is outfitted with several safety features that will benefit the Lorette department. Rau notes the tanker will be replacing their old one which is 31 years old and showing its age.

“Because we are a rural community, we don’t have hydrants everywhere," he comments, "so this tanker will be a great resource for us.”

Rau thanks the RM of Taché Council for allocating the money needed to purchase the tanker and foresees the addition will be well-used.
