After the previous management filed for bankruptcy, new management at Maplewood Golf Course in St. Pierre is working to mend relationships with the community and its members.

Present general manager Alex Edney says the previous group filed bankruptcy late last year after pre-selling memberships and passes for 2017. He adds the money from those sales is nowhere to be found.

Edney notes they will honor part of what was purchased last year.

"What we're doing is honoring half of memberships paid with proof of purchase as well as half of leagues paid and then for passes that were purchased, if you buy the denomination that you have from us then we'll honor the ones from last year. For example, if you have a ten game pack from last year, you buy a 10 from us then we'll give a 20 pack back."

He explains why they had to go this route.

"We had a few expenses this year, our bridge went down last year and we had to rebuild it so we needed a bit of revenue at the beginning of the season. That's why we had to go with this policy, most people have been very understanding about it but obviously, it is a very unfortunate situation for everyone."

Edney adds people that bought their packages with credit cards were sent a bankruptcy letter of what happened and a lot of them are getting their money refunded from the credit card company.

Edney notes many businesses in St. Pierre were also affected and they are currently working to rebuild trust with them.

"We're paying all of our bills up front before we get product because we need to build some trust there again because obviously trust was broken and a lot of people were left with a fair amount of money owed to them."

Edney says it's looking positive as in general, people from the community, the members, and the businesses have been very understanding of the situation. Edney adds he already feels at home in this tightly knit community.
