With all of the young working families moving into Niverville these days, it was only a matter of time.

A new French-language daycare has been given the go ahead to begin operations. The residential dwelling at 42 Claremont Drive, will now also be entrepreneur Monique Giroux’s place of business.

“There’s always need for daycare,” says Mayor Myron Dyck, extolling the value of home-based daycare services in the community.

Summing it up succinctly Dyck says, “Our society is more and more a society where the need to go and work in order to have a certain lifestyle level means that children are often in the care of daycare providers.”

Giroux hopes to be of service here, scheduling her business hours through the entire school year. Her plan is to provide placement for five preschool children, with room for a few more older ones.

Being a bedroom community, in between two major Manitoban cities, often lends itself to attracting young families seeking to raise their children in a smaller, safer place. Something Council knew years in advance when they appropriated funds for a new high school.  Still, child care remains a highly sought after service.

Despite the town's continued growth in families with young children, Dyck doesn’t see an issue. “This is not unique to Niverville,” he says, “this is something that we face in our province and in our country as a whole.”

Council voted unanimously in favour of Giroux’s request for a period of two years, after which she will have to reapply.
