A brand new playground called the Junior Diggers Park on the north side of Blumenort pulls design inspiration from the community.

Barb Brule is on the Blumenort Playground Committee. She says it is very important that this particular playground is located on the north side of Blumenort.

Barb Brule"This is the only one on the north side of the 311. They have to always come to the other side of town where the school is, where there is a large park. They need something here and it is important for the kids to come locally and play and the moms don’t have to worry about them crossing the busy highway."

Brule says Val Barkman was a large part in making this park possible as she was the head of the Blumenort Playground Committee during the majority of the planning. She notes the committee wanted this new park to reflect the community, so together with their biggest donor, Fast Brothers, they decided on a theme.

"There were a few ideas that started to be thrown around in the playground committee. They decided to stay with the theme of our gravel pits that are nearby so we asked around and we had this idea of an excavator so we had this awesome monkey bar structure that has various slides and places for the kids to climb on and Fast Brothers donated everything that we needed."

Brule says with all of the help that Fast Brothers put in, they were given the naming rights and they chose the very creative name Junior Diggers Park. She notes the park has also been dedicated to Cornie and Dora Fast.
