A nesting dock was launched at the Rosenthal Nature Park Tuesday morning.

The park is located just northwest of Mitchell and the project was launched in combination with the Seine Rat River Conservation District, RM of Hanover, and Green Valley School.

Jodi Goerzen is the executive director of the Seine Rat River Conservation District. Goerzen says the nesting dock will provide a habitat for birds and ducks.

"It's great because the school was really involved and Kurt (a teacher at Green Valley School) and his class did a great job on the design. If you notice it has little angles so when the little birdies fall off, they've got an easy entrance back up for safety. So, it's great. It just adds a habitat to the whole Rosenthal Nature Park."

Luc Lahaie from the RM of Hanover says it's great to have the community and students in the RM involved in recreation and nature projects.

"We received our first email from Kurt, [a teacher at] Green Valley School. They wanted to know if they could use our pond for a project. We said sure, whenever we can get schools involved in our parks and in our recreation facilities, it's a win for both."

Kurt Hangle, teacher at GVS, says it's good for students to give back to the community and he was able to collaborate with the Seine Rat River Conservation District and the RM of Hanover to make this project a reality.

"I wanted to empower my kids with empathy and community service. I think it's good for students to give back to the community and have something that is environmental and helps the community. It shows them that they can make a difference."

Goerzen adds this project will be a great addition to the nature park and will benefit everyone.
