The RM's of La Broquerie and Hanover say they're seeing a favourable spring thaw in their future.

La Broquerie Public Works Supervisor Ron Kowalchuk says the forecast for the next two weeks is indicating a few days with above zero temperatures and anticipates a slow melt which he adds should alleviate the flooding and road washout issues experienced in the last two years.

"I think with the lack of snow and, also too, last year and the year before we had unseasonable rain showers in January and February. We didn't get that this year, well a little bit, but not as much. So, I think that will help us a lot too."

Kowalchuk says he does monitor weather conditions south of the border as it does impact their municipality.

"I monitor the weather forecast south of us. There's a little bit more snow down south of the border, so I'm hopeful that won't impact us as the spring progresses."

Both the RM's say they have steamed a couple culverts to relieve local flooding and are planning to do some snow ditching in flood-prone areas.

Wes Fehr is the Manager of Public Works and Operations in the R.M. of Hanover. He notes residents of Hanover can expect to see their machines at work all week long. He notes all indications are pointing toward a straightforward thaw.

"Looking at the14-day trend right now, it looks like it is going to be very favourable as far as the weather goes and if that holds true, we are not expecting to have a whole lot of issues with water runoff this year."
