The Town of Ste. Anne is eying a multi-million dollar lagoon expansion in the near future.

Operations Manager John Desrochers says this expansion would be to add a third cell to their lagoon located just south of Ste. Anne. He notes they are hoping to be shovel ready for early 2019 but adds that all depends on funding from the upper levels of government.

"The costs haven't totally been confirmed but estimates could be as high as about 13 million dollars," explains Desrochers who notes that would also include the desludging of their current lagoon facility.

Desrochers says this expansion is based on a 20-year life cycle noting their current lagoon was designed for 20 years as well and has served them well for 40 years.

He adds with the rapid growth of the town, they are being proactive instead of waiting until the current lagoon reaches its capacity.

"Our existing lagoon is 40 years old and it's nearing capacity. It does require some upgrades, some updating to meet the news provincial and federal requirements for treated effluent. This expansion will allow us to grow for many more years to come."

The Town's lagoon facility is located on the east side of Highway 12. The lagoon on the west side of the Highway belongs to the RM of Ste. Anne.
