The Town of Niverville is investing in more security cameras.

Mayor Myron Dyck says the town began using cameras for issues like vandalism, and since then, they have added more every year.

“We’re putting up cameras that meet the requirements for them to utilize it should it need to be used in court,” says Dyck. “A lot of cameras are way too grainy.”

Dyck relays the RCMP arrested an individual on a hit-and-run charge because the clarity of the security footage was able to identify certain markings from the vehicle impact.

“It just goes to the overall safety of the community,” states the mayor, “and we continue to want to expand that network to make the community as safe as we can.”

According to Chief Administrative Officer Eric King, the town already employs around 20 cameras at nine different locations.
