Public health officials in Manitoba confirmed Friday that cases of mumps continue to be reported. Majority of cases are people between 17 and 29 years of age and connected to the University of Manitoba, University of Winnipeg and St.Boniface University.

Manitoba typically sees four to five cases of mumps each year. But this year, between September 1st and December 8th alone, there were 61 cases.

To reduce the spread of mumps, people are encouraged to wash their hands often with soap and water, avoid sharing drinking glasses or eating utensils, cover coughs and sneezes with the forearm or tissue and to stay home when sick.
