First Grunthal, then New Bothwell and now Mitchell.

Hanover Councillor Bernie Stahn has announced that as of September 4th, they will be shutting down the community recycling depot at the Co-op in Mitchell. Stahn says for the last number of years there have been too many non-recyclables placed in and around those bins that it is time to discontinue the service.

According to Stahn, those bins have been in the parking lot of the Co-op for probably ten or twelve years. He says at first the service worked well. But then over the years, the abuse started.

"I know we've been hiring somebody to clean the bin every month for the last number of years and so, it's time that it gets corrected and cleaned up," he says.

Stahn says he is disappointed that it has come to this point, but he says residents in and around Mitchell should be fine. That is because the municipality offers recycling totes to residents of Mitchell and the surrounding area.

Mitchell will be the third Hanover community to discontinue the service. Grunthal removed its bins June 1st, followed by New Bothwell June 30th.
