At around 8 a.m. Friday Steinbach RCMP were notified of a 78-year old man, who was being reported as missing.

RCMP say the wife of the missing man explained they had been driving on a country road in the Giroux area Thursday around 5:30 in the evening when their vehicle became stuck. She said her husband decided to walk to get help while she stayed near the vehicle.

RCMP note when the man did not return to the vehicle Friday morning the wife walked to look for help herself. After walking several kilometres, RCMP note she was picked up by a passerby on Highway 210 and brought home, adding her husband had not returned to their residence.

The RCMP were then notified, approximately 18 hours after the couple had first got their vehicle stuck. RCMP say they were able to locate the couple's vehicle and locate the husband lying in a ditch approximately half a kilometre away from the couple's vehicle.

EMS attended the scene and transported the man to the hospital where he is now recovering.
