The City of Steinbach has announced a partial street closure for Monday, which motorists will want to take note of.

Steinbach received provincial funding in order to help celebrate Manitoba's 150th birthday. That celebration will take place on Louis Riel Day from noon to 6 pm at the TG Smith Centre and outdoor Plaza.

Russ Dyck is Head of Parks and Recreation. He says the Steinbach Legion is being used for that event and so they are closing off Elmdale Street in front of that building. That closure will last from 11:30 am to 6:30 pm.

"We just wanted to create a safe crossing on Elmdale for kids and families to cross the street during the event," says Dyck.

According to Dyck, motorists will still be able to drive down Lumber Avenue and turn right onto Elmdale Street, but will not be able to turn left. He notes any westbound traffic along Elmdale will not be able to continue past the theatre.

Meanwhile, Dyck says there should be plenty of parking options for Monday's event. He notes only a few parking spots will be blocked off outside the curling rink. Otherwise, parking will be available there and at the arena. With businesses being closed on holiday Monday, Dyck says Steinbach Credit Union's parking lot will also be available.
