Miller Day at the T.G. Smith Centre this Saturday is a celebration of Steinbach Minor Hockey.

Laura Oswald is the President of Steinbach Minor Hockey. She says both arenas are packed all day long.

"We have games going on from 8 o'clock in the morning till the Pistons hit the ice, so it is a full day with eleven games. The weather is finally cooperating with us so that we can host outdoor activities. We are having a come learn to skate session at 10 and also at 12 o'clock, and we are also going to have bonfires and free lunch from 11:30 to 1 p.m."

Oswald says not every team in Steinbach Minor Hockey is able to play on Miller Day, but they still get involved with things like serving hot dogs and hot chocolate. She notes the Rink Training Centre is doing some specialized skills testing with the peewee and bantam groups.

"We have the Rink Training Centre doing some skills testing. Every player will get an I.D. bracelet, they will have a profile set up online and they can see what their skills look like and they can work on what they need to improve on for the next season."

Oswald says Miller Day is a lot of work to plan but it is made easier by the great committee and board who help with planning and organizing. She notes the Steinbach Pistons may only hit the ice in the evening, but they are involved in many ways throughout Miller Day.

"The Pistons are a great partner with us, they are with us throughout the whole day, they have the Pistons coming out with our squirts teams in the morning and they are doing some signing of their cards that they have for the games. They also are working with the players and with our board throughout the day dropping off some special prizes that we have for the players."

Oswald says Clutch will also get involved by skating during the community skate.
