The Steinbach MCC board recognized 13 local charities on Friday.

For the past six or seven years, Steinbach MCC has given grants to show their appreciation to organizations who do great work for the people here in the southeast. This year $40,000 was split among 13 different charities.

Abe Bergen of HavenGroup says they very much appreciate the work MCC does in the community.

"It's really gratifying to see an event like this bringing lots of charities together and developing a sense of partnership. HavenGroup is fourtunate to be supported here. Our mission is to assist seniors with senior housing and personal care home needs. This is such a good match and we're really grateful for their support."

Bergen notes the money they received will provide furnishings for Cedarwood Housing.

Meanwhile, Vicki Olatundun of Steinbach Family Resource Centre says their grant will go towards their baby and children's programming. She notes it's amazing to see the willingness to give which can be found in many people in this area.

"You know, we live in a very generous community and I have to say that those of us that work at non-profits (organizations) in this region experience that generosity. We're very grateful for MCC because without them and some of the other charities, we wouldn't be able to do the things that we do."

The thirteen charities that received grants are HavenGroup, Steinbach Family Resource Centre, EnVision, Steinbach Community Outreach, Today House, Eastman Special Olympics, ROC Eastman, Heartland Quilters, Steinbach MB Church Sew, Eden Foundation, Youth For Christ, Southeast Helping Hands and Soup's On.
