Hundreds of people in the southeast have put hockey sticks outside by their front door and posting pictures of them on social media with the #SticksOutForHumboldt in memory of the tragic bus crash last Friday

As we reflect on last Friday’s tragic bus crash which killed 15 and left 14 others injured, people have been searching for ways to show their support.

Barbie Friesen of Niverville says this is something that hits close to home with her family and explains why they chose to take part in the initiative.

"My husband played goalie for many, many years up into junior and what not and it really just hit home. Years ago what if he would've been on that bus, I wouldn't have a husband and it is just a tragedy that only the people going through it could possibly comprehend. Canada is a hockey country and I don't know why you couldn't put them (hockey sticks) out."

Friesen hopes anyone affected by this knows that they have a whole nation behind them for support. "They have an entire country and an entire world that is stopping to say 'we're thinking about you, we're praying for you, whatever you need, there are people here with you.'"

Josette Roch form Steinbach says for her, this past weekend was one to reflect and think of the families involved in this tragic accident.

"You just think of people and there's connections everywhere right. My kid played hockey and actually in 1986, a friend of ours was on the Swift Current Broncos [bus] when that accident happened. So I've seen them (the sticks) on Facebook and Instagram and I figured it's good support and that's all we can do out here. Try and support the best we can so that's what we're doing"
