You don't need a driver's license to volunteer with Operation Red Nose.

Spokesperson Mariette Kirouac says there are several positions to fill including dispatcher, navigator, and accompanying the driver of the client's vehicle. Kirouac adds she has both volunteered and utilized the service, seeing first-hand how important Operation Red Nose is to our area.

I go to the first home, I'll have a glass of wine and I'll say, that's it, I don't want to drive. So, I'll call Operation Red Nose and they'll drive me to my other child's house and so on and so forth. I just enjoy this great evening of visiting and not worrying about anything. Then, poof, I'm home at the time I want to and my car is home too."

Kirouac notes this past weekend they have five volunteers who had so much fun, they signed up again for later on this month.

"I love [volunteering] on December 31 which, by the way, we really, really are still looking for volunteers because that's our big night to fill up."

She says, this year, they are introducing shifts for December 31 because it's such a busy night.

"My favourite part about volunteering is to see how much fun everyone is having, it's like we become a big family."

Kirouac adds Operation Red Nose is a service to bring people and their vehicle home, it is not a taxi service. She says this was the second weekend of the season and they were able to raise just over $1,300 and give 49 rides home with the help of 32 volunteers.
