The RM of Hanover has started the process of delivering blue recycling bins to homes in the municipality.

Reeve Stan Toews says they purchased 3,500 of these bins. Each bin is 66 gallons in size, making them smaller than the brown garbage bins that have already been introduced in Hanover.

Toews says these new bins allow for the waste to be picked up automatically and dumped into the truck without anybody stepping off the truck.

Every home in Hanover that currently uses the brown garbage bin service, will be getting the blue bin within the next month. Last week, staff started delivering to homes in Mitchell. The delivery will then shift to Blumenort and then the Grunthal area before hitting Kleefeld and finally New Bothwell.

According to Toews, the change in service will not impact taxes.

"There's no additional cost, we purchased these totes from grant money we received," explains Toews. "We always get grants from people recycling and so we used that money to purchase these totes."

Each of the new blue bins has a barcode and number. Toews encourages homeowners to write down that number, in case their bin is ever lost. Also, they are the property of Hanover, which means, if a home is sold, the bin stays with the home.

Residents can use the new recycling bins as soon as they receive them.

Meanwhile, Toews says if any home is interested in exchanging their 96-gallon brown bin for a 66-gallon bin, they should contact the RM of Hanover.
