Lorette was without water for a short period of time this morning and the RM has issued a cautionary boil water advisory because of it.

Taché's Chief Administrative Officer Christine Hutlet says around 8 AM she began getting calls from residents telling her their water was not working.

As soon as the RM was notified about the problem, Hutlet says public works crews were able to get the plant back in working order. However, because the water was sitting stagnant for nearly an hour, the Office of the Drinking Water is recommending that all water be boiled before it is consumed.

"We believe now that the plant failure was due to a power outage in Lorette which damaged the controls to the water treatment plant, which also damaged the controls to our backup generator culminating in a complete failure," offers Hutklet in an email to Steinbach Online. "This failure caused the distribution system to lose pressure. This boil water order is precautionary in case there was any infiltration or backflow into the water system."

Hutlet says the advisory will remain in effect until further notice but expects it will be lifted once water testing concludes sometime on Friday.
