A band from Steinbach has succeeded in getting one of its songs played at Winnipeg Jets games. The band is called 'The Boy and the Sea.' It has written a song called 'Rise Together' which is the Jets' slogan this year. Band member Jason Reddecopp explains how he and bandmate Mike Burnard came up with the idea.

"Mike and I went to a game pretty early in the season and were thinking how cool it would be to have our song played here in the Jets' arena, MTS Centre. I brought up the idea and it

turns out Luke (Thiessen) had a connection with the Jets and we thought, hey we could actually do this, we could write a song, send it in and see what they say."

Burnard says it wasn't long before they and fellow musicians Allen Penner and Luke Thiessen had put something together.

"We got together one evening and the idea was pitched. Allen, who has a lot of great musical ideas said, I have this idea for this project. Basically, we got to our practice at 7:00 p.m. and we walked out at 11:00 p.m. with the song done."

They sent the song to the Jets and received a response saying thanks, we'll forward it to the right people. Burnard says they didn't know the Jets were using it until they heard it in the background on the radio.

"I was driving one night, listening to the hockey game on the radio and, in the background, I heard this riff that sounded really familiar so I cranked up my stereo and I started yelling."

He adds it was a big thrill and he quickly shared the news with the others. The band says it has become a source of inspiration to keep making music.
