A snow sculptor from Steinbach is heading up Team Manitoba for the International Snow Sculpture Symposium at Festival du Voyageur.

Lyle Peters says his team is carving a replica of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and are looking to add gargoyles on the top railing. Peters notes he has competed in the amateur competition before and, after several years, was asked to be a part of the festival's symposium.

"I would phone them, usually when the festival had started already, and ask if there were any blocks kicking around to come play on. One year they said, phone a little earlier and maybe we'll get you to do something on the boulevard. Then they just started inviting me here."

Peters says the warmer weather in the forecast has him a little worried.

"I am concerned because everything is small and detailed, things might start collapsing. But that's part of the neat thing about snow sculptures, you can kind of watch it go down. The only thing is in the next few days it's going to be so warm, it might go down quicker than we want it to."

Each team was given a 10' x 12' x 12' block of snow and asked to carve something inspired by the Festival du Voyageur or their own imagination.
