The rescued parrotThe Steinbach Fire Chief helped rescue a pet from a tree this morning, and this time it was not a kitten.

“I got a call at the station from someone whose parrot had escaped and was caught up in the tree and wouldn’t come down,” explains Fire Chief Kelvin Toews.

Toews says it was a little different from other pet rescues.

“We’ve done the stereotypical cat before, but never a parrot,” offers Toews. “You would think that a bird can just fly down, but the parrot, in this case, was in no mood to fly down.”

Toews says the owners had been missing the bird since Sunday evening and were ecstatic to have it back. “You know a pet is like part of the family, and so it was a cheerful reunion.”

The parrot, according to Toews, was pretty cooperative, and when asked if there was any difficulty in retrieving it he responded, “not a great deal. No.”
