As part of last night's lightning show, a house southwest of Steinbach was struck by lightning last night.

Steinbach fire crews were called to the scene on Bushfarm Road near Hanover Road around 11:30pm.

"What had happened was lightning had hit a radio tower on the house," says Fire Chief Kel Toews. "I guess it acted as a lightning rod. It hit the tower, went through the wire, blew off some siding, basically exploded the wire."

In terms of damage to the house, Toews adds it doesn't look too bad.

"There was a little bit of a blackening of the paper underneath the siding but we did some investigating with a thermal imaging camera and found no heat transfer to the inside of the house."

Toews adds the residents were allowed to stay in the house and he says there were no injuries.
