The Steinbach Fire Department was called to a residence on Oakenwald Crescent in Mitchell shortly after 7 Friday morning following a lightning strike.

Steinbach Fire Chief Kel Toews says the residents reported smoke in the home, but there was no open flame when the fire department arrived.

"It appears as though there was a lightening strike. The residence had a wifi tower and a satellite dish and both sustained some damage. The entire cable going in was charred, the walls were charred and some electronic equipment inside was charred as well."

Toews says fire crews set up a fan to get rid of any smoke and checked over the house to make sure it was safe before leaving.
