The La Broquerie Fire Department was called out twice Saturday afternoon.

Chief Al Nadeau says they were first called to a small grass fire east of La Broquerie. He notes it was a very small area that burned and was already almost under control when firefighters arrived.

Nadeau says about thirty minutes after they returned from that call, they were dispatched down Provincial Road 302, about eight miles south of La Broquerie. Firefighters showed up to find a controlled burn in a pasture.

Nadeau says if your neighbour has a fire, check if he or she needs help before calling 911.

The RM of La Broquerie is one of the only municipalities in the southeast without a burn ban. However, Nadeau says that could soon change.

"We will probably put a ban on shortly next week," he says. "But what that's going to do is everybody's going to call in their neighbour just because they've been itching to report their neighbour. It's going to make it worse."

Nadeau says one or two calls on a Saturday afternoon is very acceptable. But he says if a burn ban was in place today, they would probably have been called out ten times.
