A 58-year-old man from the La Broquerie area is dead following a three vehicle crash Monday morning. The collision occurred at approximately 11:50 am, along Highway 52 at Road 40E, five kilometres east of Steinbach.

Investigators believe a southbound vehicle driven by a 19-year-old male failed to stop at the intersection of Highway 52. His vehicle proceeded into the intersection and struck a westbound vehicle driven by a 58-year-old male. This pushed his vehicle into oncoming traffic where it collided with an eastbound pickup truck driven by a 49-year-old male.

The 58-year-old died at the scene. The 19-year-old was transported to hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the third vehicle was not hurt. All three drivers are from the La Broquerie area.

The 19-year-old has been arrested for Criminal Negligence Causing Death and is currently in police custody.

Alcohol is not a factor and the deceased was wearing his seatbelt.

Officers from the Steinbach detachment along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist continue to investigate.

Highway 52 from Road 39E to Road 41E was closed for several hours Monday afternoon.
