Building permit numbers in the Rural Municipality of La Broquerie are the highest in three years.

Reeve Lewis Weiss says 2014 had 132 permits pulled totaling $17,522,000 followed by a sharp drop to 103 in 2015 totaling $11,437,970, 117 in 2016 totaling $16,218,150, and a final total of 123 in 2017 totaling $13,964,338, just nine shy of the 2014 record.

"I was very happy to see [the numbers]. We always kind of thought 2014 would possibly be a year we may not get close to again, so that's exciting and good to see."

From the last three years 2016 had the highest value of building permits, Weiss says this may be because of higher value housing or commercial properties.

"Obviously a similar or steady rise would be good. I don't like increasing taxes, I like to increase homes, businesses, farms and then the RM gets more tax money to spend that way. That's the way I like doing it."

Weiss says it's good to see how the progress they've made on their lagoon so it can handle continued growth.

As for the possible humans remains in the future wetland tertiary Weiss notes, "because the holidays are just over I haven't spoken to the gentleman who was working with it. So, I can't really give an answer at this time. But I think it's just a step that they forgot to tell us about earlier. It's not like they said there were human remains there, it was because it was beside a  river and soft ground. That's why they assumed that it could have been used as such a thing."
