A spokesperson for the Rural Municipality of Hanover says renovations are now complete at the Kleefeld Recreation Centre.

Lisa Baldwin is Manager for Recreation and Community Services. She notes the upgrades followed a number of consultations held with the province as well as with Manitoba Health.

"They had some recommendations about some things that need to happen to fix up some of the deficiencies," notes Baldwin. "As well as we wanted to look at how we can make it more accessible."

Baldwin explains the washrooms needed to be more wheelchair accessible and that has now happened. Among other things, the washroom doors are now automatic.

She notes there were also deficiencies in the skate change area, as the walls were beginning to crumble. Upgrades have been completed there too.

And, renovations were done in the kitchen.

"I looked at the kitchen and I thought, wow, I'd like to do this to my kitchen at my house, it's beautiful," she says.

Baldwin says the total for all the work was $78,000, with funding coming from all three levels of government.

"The board in Kleefeld did a great job with the recommendations," she says. "Our Project Manager here at Hanover did a great job pulling all the pieces together and the space is just a lot more bright and clean and new looking. I think it looks really great."
