A Steinbach RCMP officer is offering a few tips to try and make this a crime-free Christmas for everyone.

Community Constable Dennis Redikop says there are a few simple things we can do. For example, if you are heading out of town for an extended period during the holidays, to have a neighbour shovel your driveway and check on your home.

Then, when you get your credit card statement, Redikop says you should go over your purchases to make sure everything matches and that your card wasn't swiped twice. If you do see something that doesn't belong, he notes you should let your bank know.

Redikop says it is important to park in a well-lit area. He states you should never leave a car unattended, with the keys in the ignition. Redikop says if you must warm up your vehicle, either use command start or sit in the driver's seat.

If you bring a purchase back to your car, Redikop says you should either throw it in the trunk or cover it with a blanket in your back seat.

And, Redikop says if you purchase a big ticket item, you should record its serial number. He notes this makes it easier for police to try and track down if it is stolen.
