A Jumbotron is set to be installed in Steinbach's Centennial arena by the end of this month.

Kevin Geisheimer, Sales and Marketing Coordinator for the Steinbach Pistons says this is a Pistons initiative but it is a joint project with the City of Steinbach noting the city will be providing the infrastructure for the screen. He adds the project has been in the works for a couple years now and it's exciting to see it all come together.

"We are very excited, we are shortly going to be installing a new LED screen, a new score clock into the arena that's going to be 16 1/2 feet wide by 11 feet tall. that's going to be very exciting, it's going to change the end wall in the rink and people will definitely notice it when they walk in."

Geisheimer notes the screen won't just be used for Pistons game days but for all minor hockey games as well. He says with this new screen, it now brings in the aspect of instant replay which requires a camera crew. Geisheimer notes for that, it potentially opens up the opportunity for SRSS students.

"We have had conversations with the SRSS in creating a program where we can now provide internship credits, potentially, for working alongside a game production element so people can learn what it means to do game production here at the TG Smith Centre. We're going to create a control room, we're going to have multiple cameras angles doing instant replays onto that screen so it's going to create a unique opportunity for people to learn how to do that."

Geisheimer explains why such a big addition to an older arena.

The new screen will sit left of the current score clock.

"People might say 'we have an old arena, why are you putting new toys in an old arena?' Well we look at it as we want to practice, we want to keep getting better and with the prospect of getting a new arena one day, which would be really cool, don't know when that'll happen but this could definitely go into that and we'd be steps ahead as we step into a new venue.

Geisheimer adds the screen, along with the software and installation of the cameras, should be up and running at the end of November.
