There are some unusual rules in play for retailers this weekend because Canada Day falls on a Sunday.

The Manitoba Government says, because of that, employers must observe Monday, July 2 as a general holiday. It notes, under federal legislation, July 1 is not considered a holiday so retailers in municipalities with a Sunday shopping bylaw can be open as usual. But most retail businesses must be closed on Monday. The province says exceptions include retail businesses that regularly operate with four or fewer people as well as restaurants, pharmacies, gas stations and a handful of other select businesses.

Full list of exceptions:

- restaurants
- pharmacies
- laundromats
- boat and motor vehicle rental, repair and service shops
- places with educational, recreational or amusement purposes
- tourism and recreational facilities including summer resorts
- other retailers selling nursery stock, flowers, garden supplies and accessories, fresh fruit and vegetables, and gasoline and related goods for motor vehicles.
