Brand new turning lanes will be constructed at the intersection of Highway 311 and Krahn Road in Niverville this summer to deal with increasing traffic.

Len Peters is the Vice President of Sunset Estates and one of the developers of the Highlands. He says Sunset Estates is in charge of upgrading the intersection as part of a development agreement with the Town of Niverville.

"The development agreement together with input from Manitoba Infrastructure determined how much traffic there needed to be before a turning lane was required and that number was dependent on a certain number of units being occupied in the development. We have hit that number now so the traffic is deemed to be enough to need a turning lane."

Peters says with the new Shell, Tim Hortons, and Old Drovers Run golf course all on Krahn Road now, it is important to finish the intersection sooner rather than later. He notes traffic should flow smoothly when the upgrades are complete.

"There is going to be a left-hand turn lane for people who are traveling toward the west and there is right-hand turn lane for people turning right onto Krahn Road so that through traffic is able to just keep on going."

Town Councilor Nathan Dueck says the town is very grateful that the work is being done.

"Since Tim Hortons and Shell has gone in there, we have had a massive amount of traffic increase in there and it is just a matter of time before an accident would have happened so we are really really glad that this is going in there and we thank Len for that contribution. It is just going to be an incredible benefit to the community"

Peters says construction should begin in the next month or so and be completed by mid-summer.
