Residents of Anola and Dugald may be surprised by sudden gunshot-like sounds echoing through their neighborhoods in the coming days.

With many people at home during the regular work week as a result of the COVID-19 crisis, controlled implosions are likely to become a commonly heard sound between Anola and the Riel Power Converter Station where Manitoba Hydro crews are constructing part of the Manitoba to Minnesota Transmission Line.

Spokesperson Bruce Owen says the loud bangs occur during a routine detonation that fuses together the ends of two power lines. He says work in the region is just beginning now and is expected to take roughly one week.
