Lac du Bonnet RCMP have made an arrest after one of their police vehicles was struck by an impaired driver.

On Saturday, shortly before 6 pm, police received a report of a possible impaired driver after a member of the public called 911. Officers located the pickup truck at the intersection of Highway 11 and Highway 44. Police say the driver did not pull over but continued driving erratically.

A couple of kilometres later, the vehicle pulled to the side of the road. When the driver exited the vehicle, he was told he was under arrest. He then jumped back in, threw the truck into reverse and accelerated backwards into the police vehicle. He then fled.

Police were able to stop him approximately 100 metres later. The man exited his vehicle again and threw a bat and an axe at the police vehicle. The officer was able to get to the man and place him under arrest, at which time he spit on the officer.

42-year-old Bradley Edward Lasko of Winnipeg is charged with Operation of a Motor Vehicle while Pursued by Police, Impaired Operation, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Dangerous Driving, Assault Police Officer with Weapon, Mischief over $5000 and Resist Arrest.

Lasko was also wanted on warrants from Winnipeg Police Service. He was remanded in custody.

Both the RCMP officer and Lasko received minor injuries.
