HyLife made an announcement this morning regarding funding for a multiplex in Steinbach.

Don Janzen, Chair of HyLife, explains they are committing five million dollars for a multiplex facility including an arena, field house, and cultural arts centre all under one roof and says they like mayoral candidate Paul Neustaedter’s vision.

"Well HyLife supports Paul Neustaedter's vision for a multiplex or community centre," says Janzen, "our vision has always been to have a community centre like this under one roof and so we believe that with Paul, he's able to get this project done."

Janzen was asked several times whether the funding would be there if another candidate is elected mayor.

"I guess we like Paul's vision. We'd like to see everything under one roof," was Janzen's response each time, "there's a lot of synergies that come along with that. There's a common reception area, canteen or restaurant, even the cost to bring infrastructure into a place that accommodates different venues. I think there's a benefit to that."

Janzen adds they have heard of a lot of concern from the community in regards to funding one large centre. He says they wanted to show the community that they are willing to offset some of the costs associated with this large project.

"We also believe that Paul can get this thing done," Janzen adds, "he promised the people that he would try and get this done over the next eight months and have a plan in place."
