Council for the Rural Municipality of Ritchot has announced how it plans to spend this year's CDI funding from Manitoba Hydro.

Mayor Chris Ewen explains Manitoba Hydro provides funding to municipalities impacted by transmission lines. The funding must be put towards community development initiatives.

Ritchot council was told that Manitoba Hydro has a 10-year commitment to provide CDI funding. Ewen says they are currently in year seven. The funding is worth approximately $140,000 each year. He notes there is a cost of living increase every year.

Ewen says in Ritchot, the funding is given to a different community each year. This year, St. Adolphe will be receiving the money. And, local Councillor Ron Mamchuk says rather than spread the funding over several projects, he would like to see it all given towards construction of the daycare.

The former RV rental centre at 372 Main Street in St. Adolphe is being turned into a daycare facility. The total cost of the project is about $1.7 million. Ewen is hopeful that construction will start in spring and that the daycare will be in operation by September.
