There was a house fire early Tuesday morning in a bungalow south of Sarto. Hanover Fire Chief Paul Wiebe says the Grunthal Fire Department got the alarm at 4:00 a.m. for smoke in a residence along Road 25 North, about three-and-a-half miles southeast of Sarto.

"When our crews arrived, they did find a fire in the residence. The people had all evacuated, they were awakened and evacuated the house. We found fire and some heavy smoke in one part of the house which was contained to that part of the house. It appears it was just in the ceiling or attic areas, we believe that's where it started and then worked its way down into the house area."

Wiebe says they suspect the cause was electrical in nature. He estimates repairs will cost about $25,000 with damage confined to the attic and laundry room area. The fire department was on scene until about 6:00 this morning.
