A Hollywood actor with roles in Avatar and Hacksaw Ridge will be filming a movie in southeastern Manitoba next week.

Sam Worthington is the lead actor in the movie, Fracture. Location Manager Bernie Narvey says it is a psychological mystery that will be shot for broadcast on Netflix. It is being produced by Inferno Pictures of Winnipeg in conjunction with American producers.

Narvey says right now they are doing preparations. Filming will start November 22 and 23 along Provincial Road 305, east of Ste. Agathe. After that, they are in Selkirk and the Matlock area from November 26 to December 18. Narvey says following a Christmas break, they will return to filming during the second and third week of January. He notes most filming will happen in the Selkirk area, but will also include some days at a studio in Winnipeg.

The movie is being shot entirely in Manitoba and includes a number of Canadian actors.

Narvey says they scouted about a dozen highways before determining the 305 best fit what they were looking for. He notes they needed a two-lane highway that runs east/ west, a stretch of highway that is smooth enough for stunt driving, one that is reasonably close to Winnipeg and one that lends itself to a closure and detour.

"It's all somewhat of an imposition on the people in the neighbourhood," admits Narvey. "But this one seemed to have the proper prairie vista we were looking for."

PR 305 will be closed to traffic between PR 200 and Loeppky Road. The closure will be in effect between 6 am and 9:30 pm on both November 22 and 23. Motorists needing to drive to or from a property along PR 305 are asked to inform the crew positioned at barricades, intersecting driveways and roads.

"We're looking forward to filming in the area," says Narvey. "We appreciate peoples' patience with this while we are shooting there, and sort of disrupting their driving a little bit for a few days, but we hope it won't be a serious inconvenience."

According to Narvey, they will be filming travelling shots with their main actor down PR 305. The character being played by Worthington will be driving down the highway after a Thanksgiving dinner. Scenes will include near collisions with other cars and trucks.

Narvey says while a release date has not been set, typically movies appear on Netflix within about one year of filming.
