The Rural Municipality of Hanover will be hosting a recruitment night next week for all those interested in joining the Blumenort fire department.

Construction of a fire hall has been proposed to be built along Penner Drive, south of Granny's. Last week a public information meeting was held and next week recruitment begins.

(Drawing of Blumenort fire hall)"We'd like to end off with a minimum of fifteen solid recruits to finish the program, to finish the training and to be hired as firefighters for the Blumenort station," says Hanover Fire Chief Paul Wiebe. "We may need to start off with twenty or twenty-five to get that."

Wiebe notes there are always some who don't finish the program or those who realize being a volunteer firefighter is not something they can commit to.

The recruitment night takes place Wednesday, March 1st at 7 pm at the Blumenort school. Anyone interested in joining the team is asked to attend that evening. Wiebe says after that they will take the applications and begin the interview process. He notes a number of interested individuals showed up at last week's information meeting and Wiebe says he knows there are more that didn't attend.

Hanover Chief Administrative Officer Luc Lahaie says this summer they expect to put the fire hall tender together and to receive municipal board approval for the debenture. The municipality is hoping to open the fire hall in March of 2019.
